MAKSAD’s Governance Style

Founded in 1999, the Marmaris Culture and Arts Association (MAKSAD), with its democratic and multi-vocal structure, plays a significant role in the cultural and artistic life of Marmaris. Our association operates with a participatory, transparent, and inclusive governance approach, and with its expanding institutional structure, aims to bring lasting and sustainable cultural value to Marmaris.

The objectives, responsibilities and organisational structure of the Association are set out in the Association Statutes .

General Assembly

The most comprehensive and authoritative element of the association’s bodies and organisational structure is the General Assembly, which takes place every two years with the participation of all association members. The General Assembly Meeting is the highest body that carries out the association’s fundamental decision-making processes.

Executive Board

The Executive Board is MAKSAD’s decision-making body and consists of 7 members who are renewed every 2 years by the General Assembly. While its duties and powers are defined by the association’s statutes, the Executive Board has a wide range of responsibilities, from decision-making to directing association activities and ensuring the effective use of resources. This broad scope of activities has required the establishment of separate areas of work and responsibility within the structure of the Executive Board.

Supervisory Board

The MAKSAD Supervisory Board, authorized by the General Assembly and comprising three principal and three alternate auditors, is responsible for regularly reviewing and auditing the association’s activities and financial operations. In this context, the Supervisory  Board is responsible for establishing audit schedules, actively auditing the association, preparing and presenting interim and end-of-term audit reports to the General Assembly, and requesting a vote on the discharge of liability.

Working Groups

The Executive Board and our members play an active role in various project and activity areas according to their interests and expertise. Working groups established within MAKSAD in administrative areas such as finance, publicity and promotion, member relations, and social responsibility, and in event implementation areas such as protocol, ticket sales, logistics, technical work, hospitality, and event evaluation, ensure that the association plans and implements its activities in an autonomous and sustainable manner.

Thanks to this participatory and productive structure, MAKSAD successfully manages both the internal operations as well as its sub-organisations, such as the MAKSAD Chamber Music Ensemble  and the MAKSAD Art Gallery . In addition, the Festival Committee working within the scope of the Marmaris International Culture and Arts Festival (MKSF)  and the International Cahit Koparal Flute Competition  are brought to life through the voluntary labour and dedicated contributions of our members.

Volunteers

MAKSAD thrives not only on the support of its members but also on the support of art lovers. While not an official body, our volunteers make significant contributions to the organization and implementation of many major projects. We wholeheartedly thank all our volunteers for their support.
